Turks & Caicos bareboat & catamaran charter guide
Clear water over the shallow Caicos Bank, empty sand anchorages and steady trade winds. We'll be upfront: bareboat chartering here is thin. None of the big charter companies has a base here, and most visitors book a skippered or crewed catamaran out of Providenciales.

What a week costs
Weekly charter fee for the whole boat, before extras. Charter prices change constantly. These are published ranges, not quotes.
| Boat | Base fee (WI Yachts) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Bareboat catamaran | $3,000–6,000 / week | [WI Yachts] |
| Bareboat monohull | $2,000–4,000 / week | [WI Yachts] |
| Crewed catamaran | $5,500–9,500 / week | [WI Yachts] |
| Crewed sailing yacht | $6,500–15,000 / week | [WI Yachts] |
- These are one broker's general ranges, not live listings. Bareboat availability can be seasonal and scarce, so ask for a real quote for your dates. [SailScanner]
- Plan 40–70% on top of the base fee for extras. [WI Yachts]
- Boat charters and tours must charge a 12% tourism tax, which is often not included in the quoted price. [Visit Turks and Caicos Islands]

When to go
- The core season runs December to May, with steady easterly trades and daytime temperatures around 26–28°C. From December to February the 'Christmas Winds' can blow 20–25 knots for days. [SailScanner]
- June to November is hotter, with lighter winds and more squalls. It is also the Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks from August to October. [SailScanner]
- Humpback whales pass through the Turks Island Passage from about January to April. [SailScanner]

Winds and weather
- The trades blow from the north-east to east in winter, moving to east-south-east in late spring and summer. They're typically 12–18 knots, and lighter (8–14 knots) more often in late summer. [SailScanner]
What you need: licence or skipper
- Operators commonly ask for proof of competence at RYA Day Skipper or ICC level, plus a VHF/SRC certificate. A strong sailing CV with recent experience often decides it, and each operator sets its own standards. [SailScanner]
- This isn't a ground for first-time bareboaters. Reef entrances and coral heads on the bank need visual pilotage in good light, so less experienced crews should go skippered. [SailScanner]
Requirements vary by charter company. Always check with yours before you book.
Main charter bases
- Providenciales (Provo) is the practical base. Blue Haven Marina at Leeward gives easy access to the cays and the bank. Turtle Cove Marina sits behind a narrow reef pass, and South Side Marina is on the bank side. You can get fuel at all three. [SailScanner]
- The Moorings' Caribbean destinations page doesn't list Turks & Caicos (checked 26 Oct 2026). [The Moorings]
- Neither does Sunsail's Caribbean page. [Sunsail]
- Self-drive boat rentals are quite limited and are mostly small jet boats and open skiffs. The main charter market is day trips and private crewed boats. [Visit Turks and Caicos Islands]
- Click&Boat showed no boats on its Turks & Caicos page when we checked, so our Click&Boat link below goes to its wider Caribbean listings. [Click&Boat]
A one-week Turks & Caicos sailing itinerary
A sheltered 7-day circuit of the Caicos Bank from Providenciales. Legs are modest, but allow time for eyeball navigation.
- Day 1: Provo (Leeward or Blue Haven) to West Caicos for wall snorkelling, 18–30 NM depending on the route. [SailScanner]
- Day 2: Day stop at French Cay, a bird sanctuary where you can't land, then Sapodilla or Taylor Bay. [SailScanner]
- Day 3: Cross the bank to South Caicos (Cockburn Harbour) in good light. [SailScanner]
- Day 4: Long Cay and the Admiral Cockburn Land & Sea Park. [SailScanner]
- Day 5: Back across the bank to Pine Cay and Parrot Cay via Leeward Going Through. [SailScanner]
- Day 6: Little Water Cay (Iguana Island) and Grace Bay as day stops, then a night at Leeward. [SailScanner]
- Day 7: Short sail, refuel and return to base. [SailScanner]
Distances are approximate. Plan each leg with current charts, a pilot book and the forecast.
Local rules and tips
- Time reef cuts and bank crossings for high sun, and keep a bow lookout for coral heads. Avoid glare, low sun and overcast. [SailScanner]
- Dive moorings are for day use only, and overnight mooring fields are limited. Plan to anchor in 3–6 m over sand. [SailScanner]
- Provision on Provo. Beyond it, fuel and supplies are limited and sometimes come by jerry can. [SailScanner]
